With the aim of promoting research and dialogue between art and science, the Body Archives course at SACI ends the semester with the students’ art projects once again exhibited in the Museum of Natural History in Florence.
Projects featured at La Specola deal with the themes of identity, madness, and the Other, and are based on numerous encounters with the aesthetics and language of scientific narrative. In conjunction with a display of video installations and objects in the former Reading Room on the first floor of the museum, a special "sound environment" will be presented in the fascinating Hall of the Skeletons.
The exhibition will stay open until Wednesday, April 15, 9:30am – 4:30pm.
The last entrance to the Hall of the Skeletons is at 1:30pm. Free entrance.
The Body Archives course, which has been offered at SACI since September 2014, is based upon a dialogue with museum experts. It has opened to students the possibility of assisting and volunteering in areas of museums, such as the photographic archive of the Museum of Anthropology. Visits to extraordinary collections that are only partially open to the public spur dialogue about the representations of nature and the human body as well as the dissemination of knowledge and possible methods of interaction between art and science.
