Post-Bac in Studio Art

SACI’s Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Year Abroad Program in Studio Art is well suited to those seeking to begin work in a studio art area or who have prior training in studio art and who decided after completing their bachelor’s degree that they would like to pursue a career in this field. The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Year offers unique opportunities to those who intend to earn an MFA, MA, or Phd, and want to create a significant body of work in their field as a basis for application to an advanced degree program.

The Graduate Seminar in Studio Art focuses on the role and identity of the contemporary artist in society, with particular emphasis on the impact of the arts in Italy both today and in the past. At no additional cost, students visit the Venice Biennale (every other year), contemporary art fairs, exhibitions, and museums in Florence, Faenza, Prato, Bologna, and elsewhere in Italy, and they also go on two weekend field trips -- to Casentino and Maremma. Visits to studios of practicing artists, such as that of SACI founder Jules Maidoff, are also a part of the program.

Significant amounts of time are devoted to studio work, developing skills and understanding content. Students receive individual graduate studio space within a Renaissance palazzo in the heart of Florence, where they create a documented body of artistic work, make presentations on their art, and participate in a major end-of-year graduate exhibition.

The Graduate Seminar in Studio Art is taught by Lorenzo Pezzatini.
